How to Get the Perfect Beachy Waves
Posted on 24 February 2017
Whether you’ve packed your flip flops and bikini and are actually going to the beach or you just want to look like you’ve spent the day soaking up the sun and salty air, getting a tousled head of perfect beachy waves can be a little tricky. But not any longer – here’s our guide to getting a dope surfer girl look.
Use a curling iron
You’ll need a large curling iron with a two-inch barrel as that will give you loose waves, as opposed to tight corkscrew curls. Divide your hair into random sections of around three inches and apply the iron for a maximum of six seconds to each, twirling alternately towards and away from your face. Pull each section gently at the end to free the curls into waves.
Go to bed with damp hair
While your hair is still damp after a pre-bedtime shower, give it a few squirts of sea salt spray (either store bought or homemade – see below) then divide it into four sections. Take these sections and twist into four tight buns. Two of them should be at the nape of your neck and the other two above your ears. Pin them in place then undo in the morning, giving them a rake through with your fingers. If any of the sections aren’t quite up to beachy perfection, give them another spritz of spray.
Go to the beach!
If you’re near the beach, slip into your best bathing suit and hit the ocean and use actual, honest to goodness sea water. Fill an atomizer bottle with sea water, spritz over your hair and tousle. It’s said that Jennifer Aniston’s (owner of the perfect beachy wave) hairdresser does this then adds a little sunscreen on her hair’s ends to de-frizz - and add scent for those summer vibes. On vacation? Bottle the stuff!
